Women’s Tennis Falls to DePauw 5-1 in Midwest Invitational final Posted on April 8th, 2006 by

The fourth-rated Gustavus women’s tennis team saw its bid for a third consecutive Midwest Invitational title come to an end Saturday evening with a 5-1 loss to seventh-rated DePauw University. DePauw was the last team other than Gustavus to take the Midwest Invitational title, beating Gustavus in the 2003 final 6-3. Match scores will be posted when they become available.

DePauw and Gustavus were meeting at the Midwest Invitational for the fourth straight year. The Tigers defeated Gustavus 6-3 to win the 2003 championship while Gustavus picked up a 9-0 quarterfinal win in 2004 and a 5-3 win in last year’s final.

The Gusties (19-4) will return to the courts Monday, April 17 when they host College of Saint Benedict in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference dual.
