The Gustavus indoor track and field team posted a pair of school records while competing in the MSU Open Saturday in Mankato. Sophomore Sari Lindeman (Cannon Falls, Minn.) set a new mark in the triple jump with a distance of 36 feet, 5 3/4 inches, while Junior Jered Hokenson (Watertown, Minn.) cleared 6 feet, 5 inches during the high jump portion of the indoor pentathlon competition.
Lindeman finished fourth in the triple jump, while also placing 13th in the long jump with a leap of 16 feet, 7 3/4 inches.
Carlie Hanson (Jr., Buffalo, Minn.) placed fourth-place finish with a 1:20.19 clocking in the 500 meter dash.
Senior Blythe Bittman (Fairmont, Minn.) added a fifth-place finish in the indoor pentathlon, accumulating 2903 points. Bittman, who finished third in the 800 run and fourth in the shot put, finished only three points behind Hamline’s Dana Luiken.
Val Berquam (Jr., Kenyon, Minn.) and Funto Okanla (So., St. Paul, Minn.) gave the Gusties two more top-eight finishes as Berquam registered a sixth-place clocking of 11:12.73 in the 3000 meter run and Okanla finished seventh in the 55 meter dash with a 7.56 second sprint.
Hokenson and senior Joe Atkinson (Lake Crystal, Minn.) led the Gustavus men with sixth-place finishes. Hokenson placed sixth in the pentathlon with 3099 points, just four points behind Minnesota State’s Josh Robertson. Hokenson was bolstered by third-place finishes in the 1000-meter run and the high jump. Atkinson finished sixth in the shot put with a heave of 47 feet, 9 1/4 inches.
The Gustavus men’s distance medley team added a seventh-place finish in a time of 11:00.53. Junior Tanner Miest (New London, Minn.) added an eighth-place finish in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 7.95 seconds.
The Gusties return to Mankato this Saturday for a quadrangular at Minnesota State Mankato.
