Gustavus Adolphus swimmer Billy Cuevas (Fr., Woodbury, Minn.) has been named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Swimmer of the Week for the week ending Jan. 29, 2006. Cuevas picked up individual wins in the 500 Free (4:45.71), 200 Butterfly (1:58.03) and 200 Individual Medley (2:00.92) in a 187-85 dual win over Saint John’s Saturday in St. Peter. His times in the 500 Free and 200 Butterfly are the third best times in the MIAC this season, while his time in the 200 IM is a Gustie season-best.

Cuevas is the fourth Gustie male swimmer to take home league honors this season, following Matt Stewart (Jan. 16), Scott Hagemeyer (Dec. 5) and Ben Hanson (Nov. 14).

The Gusties will be back in action this weekend when they participate in the University of Minnesota Challenge at the U of M Aquatic Center, site of the 2006 NCAA Division III Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships.
