Gustavus men’s swimmer Matt Stewart (Fr., Burnsville, Minn.) has been named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Swimmer of the Week. Stewart figured in three event wins and established two new pool records in the process during Gustavus’ 210-80 dual win at Carleton on Saturday. Stewart won the 100 butterfly with a time of 52.37 and the 200 butterfly in a pool record time of 1:56.80. Stewart’s time in the 200 butterfly is the fastest time in the conference this year. Stewart capped off the meet by posting a 47.5 second split as a member of the 400 freestyle relay team, which also established a new pool record with a time of 3:11.43.
Stewart is the third Gustie men’s swimmer to capture MIAC Swimmer of the Week honors this season. Junior Scott Hagemeyer (Dec. 5) and sophomore Ben Hanson (Nov. 14) have also been honored.
The Gusties, who improved to 5-0 in duals with the win over Carleton, will travel to Stevens Point, Wis. this weekend to participate in the UW-Stevens Point Invitational.
