The Gustavus men’s soccer team will face Loras College in Grand Rapids, Michigan this weekend in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. The Gustavus-Loras match is slated for 11 a.m. (EST) on Friday, November 18 with the second game between host Calvin College and Fredonia State (N.Y.) to start 30 minutes after the completion of the first. Friday’s winners will play in the sectional final on Saturday at 1 p.m. for the opportunity to play in the NCAA Final Four set for Nov. 25-26 in Greensboro, N.C.

Gustavus defeated Hope 1-0 and tied Wheaton 1-1 (advancing on penalty kicks) this weekend to move on to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive year.

Last year, the Gusties defeated Trinity University 1-0 in the first game of the Sectional and then lost 1-0 to UC-Santa Cruz in the quarterfinals. Coach Larry Zelenz and his squad just missed an opportunity to advance to the Final Four for the first time in the program’s history.
