Women’s Hockey Drops Opener at UW-River Falls 3-1 Posted on November 7th, 2005 by

The Gustavus women’s hockey team lost it’s season opener 3-1 at UW-River Falls on Friday night. The Gusties took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Andrea Peterson in the first period, but were shut out by the Falcons the rest of the night. UW-River Falls scored the game-winner early in the third period and then iced the victory with an empty net goal in the final minute of play.

Gustavus outshot the Falcons 46-11 in the contest, however UW-River Falls goaltender Amber Lindner turned away 45 shots to allow her teammates the chance to claim the victory. The Gusties outshot the Falcons 17-3 in the first period, 18-2 in the second period and 11-6 in the third period. Gustavus also had six chances on the power play, but could manage to score on only one which was Peterson’s unassisted goal in the first period.

Kitty Hurley played all but the final minute in the nets for the Gusties. She made eight saves and allowed two goals.
