The Gustavus Adolphus College women’s track and field team traveled to Northfield, Minn. on Saturday, April 23 to compete in the Manitou Classic. The meet was hosted by St. Olaf College at Manitou Field. No team scores were kept at the meet.
Gustavus was led by sophomore Hailey Harren (Cold Spring, Minn.), junior Kourtney Joyce (Wadena, Minn.) and sophomore Krista Cruse (Hastings, Minn.) in the distance races. Harren won the 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:21.52. Joyce placed second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 11:20.80, while Cruse placed sixth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:23.29.
Other top performers in the running events were junior Ashley Cronen (Kandiyohi, Minn.), sophomore Carlie Hanson (Buffalo, Minn.) and senior Ali Cordie (Sartell, Minn.). Cronen placed third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 59.99, Hanson placed sixth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 67.11, and Cordie placed eighth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 67.32.
The Gusties were led by first-year Shanna Dawson (Fairmont, Minn.) and senior Michelle Steadman (Wayzata, Minn.) in the field events. Dawson recorded two top-five finishes. The first-year cleared a height of 10-6 to place fifth in the pole vault and jumped a distance of 36-1.5 to place fifth in the triple jump. Steadman tied for fifth place in the high jump clearing a height of 5-1 and placed sixth in the javelin throwing a distance of 103-4.
Gustavus will return to action on Saturday, April 30 when it hosts the Drake Alternative.
