The Gustavus women’s hockey team defeated Concordia 6-0 to complete its weekend sweep of the Cobbers and improve to 12-0-0 in the MIAC. The Gusties were led by Andrea Peterson who recorded two goals. Peterson tallied four goals in the two-game series.

The Gusties jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the game and never looked back in posting their ninth shutout of the season. Margaret Dorer gave Gustavus a 1-0 lead with a goal just :59 into the contest. Kelly Crandall made the score 2-0 with a goal at 8:59 and then Laura Stypulkowski extended the lead to 3-0 with a goal at 16:16. Gustavus outshot Concordia 19-1 in the first period.

Andrea Peterson scored her first goal of the game at 7:56 of the second period to make the score 4-0 in favor of the Gusties. That was the lone goal of the period. Gustavus held a slim 9-5 edge in shots during the second period.

The Gusties pushed their lead to 5-0 when Andrea Peterson scored her second goal of the game at 2:35 of the third period. Molly Doyle closed out the scoring for Gustavus when she tallied a power play goal at the 11:50 mark. The Gusties held an 11-3 advantage in shots in the final period, while outshooting the Cobbers 39-9 in the game.

Kara Meyer turned away nine shots in the nets for Gustavus and recorded her third shutout of the season. Jenna Johnson recorded 33 saves in the nets for Concordia.

Gustavus improved its record to 16-2-0 overall and 12-0-0 in the MIAC, while Concordia falls to 4-14-0 overall and 3-9-0 in the MIAC. The Gusties posted their 28th consecutive win in MIAC regular season play dating back to November of last season.

Sophomore Andrea Peterson scored the 70th point of her career in the contest. She currently ranks 10th all-time on the Gustavus scoring list with 33 goals and 37 assists for 70 points. Senior forward Laura Stypulkowski scored one goal and two assists in the game and two goals and three assists in the series. Stypulkowski increased her career point total to 117 points which ranks third all-time at Gustavus.
