Men’s Swimming Defeats Saint John’s 177-111

The Gustavus men’s swimming and diving team defeated Saint John’s University 177-111 on Saturday in Collegeville, Minn. Coach Jon Carlson’s squad claimed one relay event title and nine of the 14 individual event titles.

The Gustavus men’s swimming and diving team traveled to Collegeville, Minn. to compete against Saint John’s University in MIAC dual meet action on Saturday, January 29. The Gusties defeated the Johnnies 177-111 claiming one relay event title and nine of the 14 individual event titles.

In the relays, the team of Scott Hagemeyer, Brad Hammer, Will Sutor and Brian Amundson won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:36.87.

Ben Hanson, Scott Hagemeyer and Will Sutor each won two individual events on Saturday. Hanson set the school record in the 1000 freestyle for the second time this season with a time of 9:53.02. The freshman also won the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:54.67.

Hagemeyer won the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.71, which is just a few tenths of a second off of his MIAC top time of 21.31. The sophomore also won the 100 freestyle with a time of 48.52.

Sutor won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:47.21. The senior also won the 100 butterfly with a time of 51.49, falling just short of his season best and MIAC top time of 51.29.

Other winners for Gustavus were Josh Waylander in the 100 backstroke (56.21), Connor Ziegler in the 200 butterfly (2:01.62) and Seth Weidmann in the 200 breaststroke (2:00.58).

Gustavus will return to action when they host UW-Stevens Point on Saturday, February 5.
