Men’s Hockey Set to Face Hamline Posted on January 20th, 2005 by

The Gustavus Adolphus College men’s hockey team will take on the Hamline Pipers this weekend coming off a two game sweep of Concordia. The Gusties come into the weekend with an overall record of 5-8-0, including a conference record of 2-2-0. The convincing sweep of Concordia, where Gustavus out-shot the Cobbers 103-45, puts Gustavus in sixth place in the MIAC. The Gusties are led in scoring by junior defensemen Keith Detlefsen and Adam Meyer. Detlefsen has scored 15 points (6g, 9a), including three goals in three assists this past weekend. Meyer has tallied 14 points (6a, 8a), and leads the Gusties with four power play goals.

Hamline comes into the weekend with an overall record of 3-12-0, and a conference mark of 0-6-0. The Pipers were swept by St. John’s last weekend, getting out-scored 15-1 over the two games. Hamline is led in scoring by senior forward Ryan Manke with 11 points (8g, 3a). Six of Manke’s eight goals have come on the power play.

This will be an important series for the Gusties who can continue their move up the conference standings with a sweep. Coach Brett Petersen’s squad gained momentum in Moorhead and hope to move up at least one more place in the league standings this weekend. Gustavus leads the all-time series against Hamline with an 81-12-1 record. The Gusties swept the series last year posting a 3-2 victory in St. Peter followed by a 9-1 win in St. Paul.

Friday night and Saturday night’s games, both scheduled to start at 7:05pm, will be broadcast live, Click Here, by Josh Winter.
