Men’s Hockey Defeats Concordia 4-1 Posted on January 15th, 2005 by

The Gustavus men’s hockey team completed the conference sweep on Saturday afternoon by defeating Concordia College 4-1 in Moorhead, Minn. The Gusties improve to 2-2-0 in the MIAC and 5-8-0 overall, while the Cobbers fall to 1-5-0 in the MIAC and 1-12-1 overall.

It took the Gusties just 29 seconds to get on the scoreboard as Craig Johnson recorded his first goal of the season and gave the Gusties a 1-0 lead. Jason Watters and Mike Hosfield were credited with the assists. Nick Droogsma and Keith Detlefsen lit the lamp just over a minute apart to give the Gusties a 3-0 lead.

Jason Watters gave the Gusties a four-goal lead when he scored with a little under four minutes left to play in the second period. Justin Pethick would score the lone goal of the game for the Cobbers with approximately 11 minutes to play to make the final 4-1 in favor of Gustavus.

Gustavus goaltender Erik Kraska recorded 28 saves on 29 shots to improve his overall record to 3-1-0 this season.

Gustavus will return to MIAC action next Friday in St. Paul, Minn. versus Hamline University. The Gusties will host the Pipers on Saturday night in St. Peter, Minn.
