Men’s Hockey Defeats Concordia 7-0 For First League Win Posted on January 14th, 2005 by

The Gustavus men’s hockey team showed little rust from a one month layoff in posting a 7-0 win over Concordia in Moorhead on Friday night. Adam Meyer led the Gusties with three goals, while Brett Sawyer recorded the shutout in the nets.

Adam Meyer opened the Gustavus scoring with the first of his three goals at 8:29 of the first period. Assists were credited to Ben Ollila and Keith Detlefsen. Meyer’s goal turned out to be the only score of the period. The Gusties outshot Concordia 12-5.

Gustavus would extend its lead to 2-0 on Meyer’s second goal at :40 of the second period. Less than two minutes later, Keith Detlefsen made the score 3-0 with assists from Meyer and Steven Dusich. The Gusties would go on to score three more goals and led 6-0 at the end of the second period. Meyer scored his third goal on the power play at 10:36, followed by Craig Jankowski’s goal at 15:52 and John Arundel’s goal at 16:58. Gustavus outshot Concordia 25-4 in the period.

The only goal of the third period was scored by Keith Detlefsen at the 10:18 mark. Detlefsen finished the night with two goals and two assists for four points. Meyer also tallied four points with three goals and an assist. Gustavus outshot the Cobbers 17-7 in the third period. The Gusties outshot Concordia 54-16 in the game.

Gustavus improves to 4-8-0 overall and 1-2-0 in the MIAC, while Concordia falls to 1-11-1 overall and 1-4-0 in the MIAC. The two teams will wrap up the series tomorrow in Moorhead. Game time is set for 2:05 pm.
