Men’s Hockey Team Set to Face Concordia This Weekend in Moorhead Posted on January 11th, 2005 by

The Gustavus Adolphus College men’s hockey team will head up to Moorhead, Minnesota to take on the Concordia Cobbers for its first series in a little over a month. The Gusties last game was a 4-2 loss to Marian on December 11. Gustavus enters the weekend with a 3-8-0 record. Coach Brett Petersen’s squad has played only one MIAC series so far this season. That series was played against league-leading St. John”s on December 4-5. Gustavus is led in scoring by sophomore forward Steven Jensen with 10 points (4g, 6a). The Gusties are led on defense by juniors Adam Meyer and Keith Detlefsen. Both players have three goals and six assists for nine points. Meyer leads the team with three power play goals.

The Concordia Cobbers come into the weekend with a record of 1-10-1 overall, and 1-3-0 in the MIAC. The Cobbers suffered a 9-1 loss to Wisconsin-Superior on January 5. Concordia is led in scoring by senior forwards Matt Hansen and Nate Ronning. Hansen has compiled 11 points (5g, 6a) while Nate Ronning has tallied 10 points (5g, 5a).

This will be an important league series for both teams. A sweep by either team would improve its record to .500 in league play with plenty of games left in the regular season. Gustavus leads the all-time series against Concordia with a 67-21-4 record. The last meeting between these teams was a 4-2 Gustavus victory on January 24, 2004 in St. Peter, MN.
