The Gustavus Adolphus College women’s hockey team hosted UW-River Falls on Saturday afternoon in St. Peter, Minn. The Gusties defeated the Falcons 1-0 to improve to 1-0-1 overall, while the Falcons fall to 3-1-0.
The game remained scoreless after one period of play. Sixth ranked Gustavus outshot the tenth-ranked Falcons 22-4, but were unable to get the puck past Falcon goaltender Marlene Yaeger. Sophomore Andrea Peterson scored a power play goal at 12:13 of the second period to give Gustavus a 1-0 lead. Junior Abby Randall and senior Laura Stypulkowski were awarded the assists. The score remained the same after three periods of play and the Gusties recorded their first win of the season.
The Gusties dominated the majority of play outshooting the Falcons 44-10. Gustavus goaltender Kara Meyer made 10 saves to record her first win of the season.
Gustavus will open up MIAC action on Friday, November 19 at Hamline University. The Gusties will host the Pipers on Saturday, November 20.
