The Gustavus men’s and women’s cross country teams will compete in the NCAA Central Regional Meet on Saturday, November 13. The meet will be hosted by Wartburg College at the Waverly Municipal Golf and Country Club in Waverly, Iowa. The men will race at 11:00 a.m. and the women will race at 12:00 p.m.
The Gustavus women’s cross country team hopes of a repeat performance from last year. The Gusties placed third at the Central Region Meet advancing to the NCAA Championships for the second time in school history. The Gusties have placed second in three meets this fall, including the St. Mary’s Invite, Les Duke Invite and the MIAC Championships. Gustavus is led by senior Nichole Petersen. Petersen, a four-time MIAC all-conference runner, has placed in the top 15 at the region meet the past three years. The senior has finished in the top spot for Gustavus in each race she has competed in this fall.
The Gustavus men’s cross country team will look to improve upon its 16th place finish last year. The Gusties are led by sophomore Alex Zupan. Zupan placed 11th at the conference meet two weeks ago to become the first all-conference men’s cross country runner for Gustavus since 1999. The sophomore has finished first for Gustavus in all seven meets this fall.
The NCAA Division III Cross Country National Championships will take place on Saturday, November 20. The meet will be hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire at the Whitetail Golf Course south of Colfax, Wisconsin.
