The Gustavus women’s soccer team picked up its first win in MIAC play this season with a 3-0 victory over Bethel in Arden Hills on Tuesday. Alison Rethwisch (SO, Lakeville, Minn.) led the Gusties with two goals, Jenna Iaizzo (FY, White Bear Lake, Minn.) scored the other Gustavus goal. Tori Boughton (JR, Edina, Minn.) made four saves and picked up the win in the nets.
The Gusties opened the scoring at the 6:31 mark on Rethwisch’s first goal with an assist from Amy Larson (SO, Bloomington, Minn./Holy Angels). Gustavus would outshoot the Royals 9-3 in the first half, but managed only a 1-0 lead at the intermission.
Coach Mike Stehlik’s squad clung to its 1-0 lead throughout the second half and then extended its lead to 2-0 on Rethwisch’s second goal of the game near the 80 minute mark (79:57). Erin Kasper (SO, Eagan, Minn.) was credited with the assist.
The Gusties closed out the scoring on a goal by Jenna Iaizzo at 86:49. Megan Tepper (SO, Woodbury, Minn./Hill-Murray) picked up the assist.
Gustavus outshot the Royals 21-7 in the match and held a 3-0 advantage in corner kicks. The Gusties, who improve to 2-8-1 overall and 1-6-0 in the MIAC, will now host Hamline this Saturday at 1:00 pm.
