Men’s Soccer Defeats Augsburg 2-0 Posted on October 9th, 2004 by

The Gustavus men’s soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to 29 games (22 wins, seven ties) with a 2-0 win over Augsburg College on Friday night in Minneapolis, Minn. Head coach Larry Zelenz recorded his 200th victory at Gustavus on Friday. His overall record at Gustavus is 200-91-31.

Ryan Beduhn earned his first collegiate goal in the 42nd minute of the game. Beduhn took a pass from Bobby Kroog on the left-side of the penalty box. Beduhn rifled a left-footed shot that deflected off an Augsburg defender and past the goalkeeper.

Grant Morlock pushed into the attack from his left back position in the 67th minute of the match. Morlock served a ball over the top of the Auggie defense to Caleb Bousu just inside the penalty box. Bousu placed a shot over the Auggie goalkeeper to make it 2-0 in favor of the Gusties.

The Gusties enjoyed the majority of possession and outshot the Auggies 23-5. Gustie goalkeepr Andy Moulton recorded two saves to earn his seventh shutout and sixth win of the season.

Gustavus improves to 11-0-2 overall and 5-0-1 in the MIAC. The Gusties are ranked fifth in the nation and first in the West Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) as of October 5. Gustavus will be back in action on Wednesday, October 13 at home against Bethel University.
