Joe Hartwell Named MIAC Men’s Soccer Player of the Week Posted on October 6th, 2004 by

Gustavus Adolphus College senior defender Joe Hartwell (Apple Valley Minn./Eastview HS) anchored a defense that has allowed no conference goals this season, shutting out Saint Mary’s (W 3-0), Carleton (W 1-0) and Luther (W 2-0) this past week. Hartwell scored the game winning goal off a penalty kick against Luther. The senior captain for the Gusties was named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Men’s Soccer Player of the Week for his efforts.

Gustavus is in first place in the MIAC with a conference record of 4-0-1. The Gusties are on a 28 game unbeaten streak (21 wins, seven ties) dating back to September 17, 2003. Head coach Larry Zelenz’s squad has an overall record of 10-0-2 and is ranked fifth in the nation and first in the West Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) as of October 5.
