The fifth-ranked Gusties traveled to Decorah, Iowa on Sunday afternoon to play non-conference opponent Luther College. Gustavus scored two first-half goals to earn its sixth consecutive win. Head coach Larry Zelenz’s squad is unbeaten in its last 28 contests (21 wins, seven ties).

The Gusties took the lead in the 21st minute when Caleb Bousu was brought down in the penalty box. Captain Joe Hartwell stepped up to take the penalty kick and fired the shot past the Norse goalkeeper to give the Gusties a well-deserved 1-0 lead. Substitute Alex Groth made it 2-0 in favor of the Gusties in the 38th minute of the match. Bousu layed the ball off to Groth at the top of the penalty box. Groth took a touch to the left and cut back to his right to beat the Luther defender and hammered the shot into the upper right corner of the goal.

Gustavus goalkeeper Nate Hitch made four saves to record his fifth win and fifth shutout of the season. The Gusties have not given up a goal in the last 751 minutes of play.

The Gusties improve to 10-0-2 overall and will be back in MIAC action on Friday, October 8 at Augsburg College.
