Men’s Soccer Defeats Carleton 1-0 Posted on October 2nd, 2004 by

The fifth-ranked Gusties extended their unbeaten streak to 27 games with a 1-0 win over Carleton College on Saturday afternoon in St. Peter, Minn. Gustavus improves to 4-0-1 in the conference and 9-0-2 overall, while Carleton falls to 2-2-0 in the conference and 4-6-0 overall.

The Gusties put pressure on the Knights early but were unable to take advantage of their opportunities. The lone goal came in the 27th minute when Chris Pinahs beat the Carleton defender down the right flank and served the ball across the goal. Jeffrey Johnson got to the ball first on the back post and struck the ball home with authority to give the Gusties their fourth conference victory of the season.

Gustavus goalkeeper Andy Moulton recorded three saves to earn his fifth win and sixth shutout of the season.

Head coach Larry Zelenz’s squad will travel to Decorah, Iowa tomorrow to play Luther College. The Gusties defeated the Norse 6-0 in St. Peter, Minn. last season. The game is scheduled to start at 4:00pm.
