The Gustavus volleyball team lost to MIAC opponent Macalester College Friday night in St. Paul (30-19, 30-23, 30-24), dropping to 3-2 in the conference and 13-5 overall. Macalester is also 3-2 in the MIAC and is now 5-11 overall. Both teams are now tied for fifth place in the MIAC.
Coach Kari Eckheart’s squad struggled on offense during the match, achieving a high hitting percentage of only .306 in the third game, while Macalester hit .690 in the same game. Junior Anne Osthus, however, led the Gusties in kills with ten, and senior Sue Dailey contributed 13 digs. The Scots were led offensively by sophomore Lauren Eberhart with 16 kills, while first year Kari Tanaka had 34 assists.
This is the second straight loss for the Gusties, who will face two of the conference’s top teams next week. Undefeated Carleton College will visit St. Peter on Wednesday, while Gustavus will play host to St. Ben’s on Friday. Both game times are set for 7:30 p.m.
