Women’s Soccer Loses to Loras 3-4 Posted on September 11th, 2004 by

The Gustavus women’s soccer team lost 3-4 to Loras College on Saturday afternoon in St. Peter, Minnesota. Amy Larson, Samantha Engh and Alison Rethwisch were the goalscorers for Gustavus.

The Gusties took the lead just 2:42 into the match when Jenna Iaizzo layed the ball off to Amy Larson. Larson hit it one-time with her right foot just outside the penalty box into the upper right corner of the goal. Five minutes later Samantha Engh finished off a corner kick from Amy Larson to make it 2-0. The Duhawks cut the lead in half at 17:31 with a goal from Katie Brake. Substitute Alison Rethwisch scored at 27:06 to make it 3-1 in favor of the Gusties. Within a minute the Duhawks responded with a goal from Leslie Eggers. At halftime the Gusties led 3-2.

The Duhawks put the Gusties under a considerable amount of pressure and would equalize at 56:59 with a goal from Michelle Wieser. Dani Gaydusek would score the game winner for the Duhawks at 70:09.

The Duhawks outshot Gustavus 18-7 and held a 6-3 advantage on corner kicks. Goalkeeper Erin Hall made three saves for the Duhawks and recorded the win in net. Goalkeeper Tori Boughton made eight saves for the Gusties.

Gustavus drops to 0-1-1 and will play Nebraska Wesleyan on Sunday at 1:00pm. Loras improves to 4-0 and will play Concordia College at 3:30pm on the lower field.

In other action Concordia College defeated Nebraska Wesleyan 2-0 Saturday afternoon on the lower field at Gustavus. Rachel Lewis scored twice in the last ten minutes to help the Cobbers improve to 2-1-0 overall.

Concordia will face Loras at 1:00pm tomorrow on the lower field and Nebraska Wesleyan will face Gustavus at 1:00pm on the stadium field.
