Six Women’s Tennis Players Named MIAC All-Conference Posted on May 7th, 2004 by

The Gustavus Adolphus women’s tennis team had six individuals and three doubles teams named to the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference All-Conference Team.

In singles play, Tara Houlihan (Sophomore, Sioux Falls, S. Dak.) posted a conference record of 6-1 and was named All-Conference at the #1 position. Lauren Hom (First-year, Stevens Point, Wisc.) earned All-Conference honors at the #2 position going undefeated in conference play with a record of 8-0. Lyndsey Palen (Sophomore, Rochester, Minn.) went 3-0 in conference play at the #3 position to earn all-conference honors. At the #4 position, Marla Menne (Sophomore, White Bear Lake, Minn.) posted a 8-0 record in conference play to earn all-conference honors. Jaime Gaard (First-year, Edina, Minn.) went 9-0 in conference play to earn all-conference honors at the #5 position. Kara Smiley (Junior, Bovey, Minn.) earned all-conference honors at the #6 position with a record of 8-0 in conference play.

In doubles, the MIAC All-Conference teams are Houlihan and Palen at #1 with a conference record of 4-0, Hom and Smiley at #2 with a conference record of 6-0 and Menne and Gaard at #3 with a conference record of 9-0.

The Gusties went undefeated in conference play this season (10-0) to extend their unbeaten streak to 132 matches in MIAC dual match play. Gustavus was the number one seed in the MIAC Championships and won its 13th consecutive MIAC title in April. The Gusties won the NCAA Division III Central Sub-Regional on May 1st and have advanced to the NCAA Team finals for the 16th consecutive season. The team finals will take place May 12-14 in Memphis, Tennessee.
