Chase Thonvold Named Freshman of the Year in MIAC Men’s Golf

Gustavus Adolphus golfer Chase Thonvold has been named Freshman of the Year by the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference golf coaches.

Gustavus Adolphus golfer Chase Thonvold (Willmar, MN) has been named Freshman of the Year by the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference golf coaches.

Thonvold has stepped right in to the Gusties top six this season and has compiled an impressive 76.4 stroke average in twenty rounds of play. He earned All-Conference honors with a ninth place finish at the MIAC Championships in October. Thonvold has posted four Top 10 finishes this season including a third place finish at the Saint John’s Spring Invitational, a fifth place finish at the Twins Cities Classic, ninth at the MIAC Championship, and 10th at the Gordin Collegiate Classic.

Thonvold will travel with the Gustavus men’s golf team to Redlands, California to take part in the NCAA Championships on Monday, May 10th through Thursday, May 13th. The Gusties are currently ranked fifth in the Division III Coaches Poll.

Chase is the son of Dave and Renita Thonvold of Willmar, Minnesota.
