Softball Drops Two at Home Against St. Thomas

The Gustavus softball teams dropped two games on Saturday to conference leader St. Thomas. The Tommies defeated the Gusties 12-3 in game one and 6-2 in game two.

The Gustavus softball team hosted the University of St. Thomas on Saturday afternoon in St. Peter, Minn. The Tommies defeated the Gusties 12-3 in game one and 6-2 in game two. Gustavus falls to 11-3 in the MIAC and 17-11 overall, while the Tommies improve to 14-0 in the MIAC and 28-4 overall.

The Gusties jumped out to an early lead in game one. Ingrid Olson, Abby Berstein and Audrey Lenoch each scored in the first inning to give the Gusties a 3-0 lead. Nikki Conway responded for St. Thomas with a three-run home run in the second inning to tie the score. The Tommies added three runs in the third inning, five runs in the fourth inning and one run in the fifth inning to win 12-3. Molly Biehn, who allowed 13 hits in four innings of work, was handed the loss on the mound.

In game two, the Gusties out-hit the Tommies 10-9 but were unable to put runs on the board. Audrey Lenoch went four for four at the plate and scored once for the Gusties. Molly Biehn went two for four at the plate and knocked in both runs for Gustavus. Sara Medved, who threw six innings, suffered the loss on the mound.

The Gusties will travel to St. Paul tomorrow to face Hamline University. The first pitch is scheduled for 1pm.
