Softball Team Sweeps the Cobbers, 2-0, 10-2

The Gustavus Women’s Softball team swept Concordia College 2-0 and 10-2 on Saturday afternoon in Saint Peter, Minn. In the first game, Molly Biehn struck out 13 batters and allowed only three hits to record her third shutout of the year.

The Gustavus Adolphus Women’s Softball team swept Concordia College 2-0 and 10-2 on Saturday afternoon in Saint Peter, Minn. The Gusties improve to 8-8 overall and 4-0 in the MIAC, while the Cobbers fall to 4-12 overall and 0-4 in the MIAC. Coach Shanda Ness’ squad has outscored its opponents 39-9 during its six conference wins this season.

In the first game, Gustavus scored its two runs with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Claire Mielke got on base with a single. Ingrid Olson drove a double to left-center field to bring Mielke home and put the Gusties up 1-0. Olson recorded her seventh stolen base of the year to move to third base and then Abby Bernstein singled to send Olson home to make the score 2-0 in favor of Gustavus. Senior Molly Biehn sealed the deal on the mound for the Gusties. Biehn struck out 13 batters and allowed only three hits to record her fifth win of the season.

In the second game, Sara Medved struck out five batters, allowed six hits and one earned run in five innings for her third win of the year. Ingrid Olson had an impressive second game with three hits in four at-bats, scoring three times, driving in one run and one steaing one base.

The Gusties will be back in MIAC action tomorrow. Gustavus will host a double-header against St. Kate’s starting at 1pm.
