Softball Team Sweeps St. Olaf, 3-0, 12-3

The Gustavus softball team opened Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play by sweeping St. Olaf College, 3-0 and 12-3 in St. Peter on Wednesday afternoon. Audrey Lenoch had a big day with three hits in four at-bats with four rbi.

The Gustavus softball team played at home for the first time this season and entertained the Gustie faithful with two impressive wins over St. Olaf, 3-0 and 12-3. Coach Shanda Ness’ squad pounded out 17 hits and scored 15 runs in the two games while allowing only three runs and committing only one error. Gustavus is now 4-8 overall and 2-0 in the MIAC.

In game one, Molly Biehn limited St. Olaf to six hits and picked up her first shutout of the season. Audrey Lenoch drove in two of the Gusties three runs and scored once. Mary Furlong also recorded two hits for Gustavus.

In game two, the Gusties exploded for six runs in the third inning on their way to claiming the 12-3 victory. Abby Bernstein went three-for-three with three rbi to lead Gustavus at the plate. Audrey Lenoch stayed hot with two hits in two at-bats with two rbi. Sarh Medved allowed two earned runs in four innings of work to claim the victory on the mound.

Gustavus will face Buena Vista in a non-conference doubleheader in St. Peter on Thursday at 3:00 pm.
