Women’s Softball to Compete in Simpson Classic Posted on March 19th, 2004 by

The Gustavus Adolphus women’s softball team will travel to Cedar Rapids, Iowa to participate in the Simpson College Softball Classic March 20-21. The classic was moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa due to 16 inches of snow that Indianola, Iowa received earlier this week.

Gustavus made its first trip to the NCAA tournament last season and recorded an overall record of 27-11. The women set school records for number of conference wins and overall wins in a season. It was the third consecutive year the Gusties had 20 plus wins in a season.

Gustavus will play Viterbo College at 9:00 a.m. and Wartburg College at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 20. Saturday’s games will be played at Franklin Field in Tomahawk Park. On Sunday, March 21 Gustavus is scheduled to play Coe College at 9:00 a.m. and Saint Scholastica at 1:00 p.m. Sunday’s games will be played at Clark Field on the campus of Coe College.

Gustavus is looking for its first win of the season after a 0-4 start. The Gusties traveled to Texas in February to play Texas Trinity, Texas Lutheran, and Chapman. The women have been practicing indoors and are anxious to get outside to play.
