Women’s Hockey Selected to Host UW-Stevens Point in First Round of NCAA Tournament

The NCAA Division III Women’s Hockey selection committee has announced that Gustavus will host UW-Stevens Point in a first round game on Saturday, March 13 at 7:00 pm.

The NCAA Division III Women’s Hockey selection committee has announced that Gustavus will host UW-Stevens Point in a first round game on Saturday, March 13 at 7:00 pm at Don Roberts Rink in the Lund Arena.

The winner will advance to the Division III Women’s Frozen Four on Friday and Saturday, March 19-20 and play top-seeded Manhattanville (N.Y.), which earned a bye through the quarterfinals. The frozen four site will be determined following the quarterfinal round.

The Gusties, who earned an automatic NCAA bid by defeating St. Thomas 3-2 for the MIAC Playoff title, enter national tournament play with a record of 22-5-0. This will be the second NCAA Tournament bid for Gustavus in the three-year history of the tournament and the second time the Gusties have been selected to host a first round game.

UW-Stevens Point will be making its first ever NCAA Tournament appearance. The Pointers earned their berth by defeating UW-Superior 3-2 in two overtimes in the NCHA Playoffs last weekend. UW-Stevens Point enters the tournament with a record of 17-6-4.

The two teams split their regular season series which was played in St. Peter on November 14 and 15. The Gusties claimed a 3-2 win on Friday and then the Pointers posted a 6-3 win on Saturday.
