Men’s Nordic Skiing in First Place After First Day of MIAC Championships Posted on February 21st, 2004 by

The Gustavus men’s nordic ski team had a big first day at the MIAC Championships and holds a 10 point lead over Saint Olaf heading into the second day. The Gusties totalled 33 points on the day followed by Saint Olaf with 23, St. John’s with 16 and Macalester with six.

Erich Ziegler won the 10 kilometer freestyle race to lead the Gusties. He was supported by teammates Kevin Patzoldt in second, Nate Porath in third. and Jon Miller in fourth. All four earned all-conference honors. Other finishes for Gustavus included Dan Kueffer in seventh, Andy Rishavy in ninth, Jared Stephens in 11th, Chuck Anderson in 14th and Scott Kyser in 15th.

The championship will conclude on Sunday with the 15 kilometer classical race. The meet is being held at the Graystone Ski Trails in Saint Cloud, Minnesota.
