Women’s Basketball Defeats Bethel College 70-47 Posted on February 18th, 2004 by

The Gustavus Adolphus women’s basketball team defeated Bethel College 70-47 on Wednesday night at the Robertson Center in Arden Hills, Minn. The Gusties improve to 19-5 overall and 17-4 in the MIAC, while the Royals fall to 11-13 overall and 9-12 in the MIAC.

Kristin Kachelmyer gave the Gusties a 17 point lead, their largest lead of the half, with a jumper with 7:05 to play in the first half. The Gustie defense forced the Royals to make 20 first half turnovers and went into the lockerroom with a 12 point lead 38-26.

JoLynn Thielke hit a three-point basket early in the second half to pull the Royals within five points. Bri Monahan hit a jumper with 15:35 to build the Gustie lead to 13 points 52-39. Gustavus ended the game on a 15-2 to run for a final score of 70-47.

Angie Peterson went 5-14 from the field, 2-3 from three-point range, and 2-2 from the free-throw line to lead Gustavus with 14 points. Kristin Kachelmyer went 5-9 from the field and 1-1 from the free-throw line to net 11 points for the Gusties. Anna Cunningham led the Royals with 12 points and Heather Davis contributed 11 points.

Gustavus will be back in action this Saturday against MIAC leader Carleton College. The Knights defeated the Gusties in overtime 88-79 on January 19 in Northfield, Minn. Gustavus leads the all-time series against Carleton 32-15.
