Men’s Hockey Falls to St. Olaf 5-3 Posted on February 13th, 2004 by

The Gustavus men’s hockey continued to struggle in MIAC play with a disappointing 5-3 loss to St. Olaf in Northfield. Keith Detlefsen had a goal and two assists for the Gusties.

Coach Brett Petersen’s squad trailed 4-0 heading into the third period, before putting together a furious rally that cut the lead to one at 4-3. The goals came from Brandon Buskowiak at :47 of the period, followed by Keith Detlefsen at 7:07 and Jason Watters at 15:46.

With one minute remaining in regulation, Gustavus went on the power play with a chance to tie the game, however St. Olaf scored a short-handed goal just :10 into the Gusties man-advantage to seal the 5-3 victory. Gustavus outshot the Oles 37-24. Dan Melde suffered the loss in the nets for the Gusties (21 saves).

Gustavus falls to 9-8-3 overall and 6-3-2 in the MIAC. The two teams will wrap up the series tomorrow at 7:05 pm in St. Peter, Minnesota.
