The Gustavus men’s basketball team improved to 10-1 in the MIAC with a 71-52 win over Augsburg in Minneapolis on Wednesday night. Tim Brown led the Gusties with 25 points.
The Gusties and Auggies were locked in a close battle early in the first half. Gustavus broke the game open with a 13-0 run late in the half. The Gusties led 37-23 at halftime.
Gustavus gradually extended its lead to as many as 20 points in the second half and Augsburg would not ever get closer than 12 points. Leading by 12 (50-38) with eight minutes remaining, the Gusties went on a 12-4 run to extend their lead to 20 at 62-42 with 4:08 left.
Joining Brown in double figures for Gustavus were Eric Nelson with 16 and Doug Espenson with 12. Point guard Chris TeBrake turned in a strong all-around performance with five points, seven assists and seven rebounds.
The Gusties shot 41 percent from the field (25-61) and 75 percent from the free throw line (15-20). Augsburg shot 33 percent from the field (20-59) and 61 percent from the free throw line (8-13). Gustavus outrebounded the Auggies 43-38.
The Gusties (12-4, 10-1) will play at Concordia on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 pm.
