The Gustavus Adolphus women’s basketball team improved to 10-2 overall and 8-1 in the MIAC by defeating Bethel College 94-54 on Saturday at Gus Young Court in Saint Peter, Minn. The Royals fall to 6-7 overall and 4-6 in the MIAC.
Kristin Kachelmyer (JR, Mankato, Minn.) led the team in scoring with 15 points. Angie Peterson (SR, Northfield, Minn.) tallied 14 points and led the team with five steals. Jennifer Klohs (SR, Brooklyn Park, Minn.) contributed 14 points and had four steals.
JoLynn Thielke (FY, Holoway, Minn.) led the Royals with 17 points and six steals. Heather Davis (FY, Eden Prairie, Minn.) followed with 11 points and two blocks.
The Royals struggled against the intense Gustie defense turning the ball over 40 times. The Gustavus women led by 25 at halftime and extended the lead to 40 in the second half. The Gusties shot 51.3 percent from the field and 80 percent from the free throw line.
The Gusties will travel to Northfield, Minn. on Monday to face Carleton College (12-1 overall, 9-1 MIAC) and battle for second place in the conference standings. Carleton suffered their first MIAC loss this afternoon to Saint Benedict 58-61.
