Women’s Hockey Defeats Augsburg 3-1 Posted on December 5th, 2003 by

The Gustavus women’s hockey team defeated Augsburg 3-1 at the Augsburg Ice Arena in Minneapolis on Friday. The win improved the Gusties record to 3-3-0 on the year, 1-2-0 in the MIAC. The Auggies dropped to 4-3-0, 2-1-0 in conference play.
Gustavus registered one goal in each period to pick up its first conference win of the season. The Gusties went two-for-five on the power play, as three different players scored a goal.

Ingrid Neve started the Gustavus scoring when she scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season on a power play midway through the first period. Katie Deschneau picked up the game-winner less than a minute into the second period. Andrea Peterson extended the lead to three when she tallied a power play goal seven minutes into the third period. Augsburg added a late goal by Lauren Chezick to avoid the shutout with 2:30 left on the clock.

Kara Meyer picked up the win between the pipes for Gustavus, her first collegiate victory. In her first start of the year, she made 18 saves.

Gustavus out-shot Augsburg 26 to 19. The Gusties had a 13 shot advantage through the first two periods.

The same two teams complete the weekend series on Saturday in St. Peter. Game time is scheduled for 2:05 at Don Roberts Ice Arena.
