Women’s Hockey Doubled Up by St. Thomas 4-2 Posted on November 22nd, 2003 by

The Gustavus women’s hockey team was defeated by St. Thomas 4-2 on Saturday afternoon in St. Peter. The Tommies swept the weekend doubleheader with the Gusties.
Tenth-ranked St. Thomas stormed out to a 3-0 lead in the game’s first eight minutes. Ninth-ranked Gustavus played catch-up the rest of the way and pulled within one goal with 18:49 remaining in the second period. Despite outshooting the Tommies 26-5 over the final two periods, the Gusties could not get the game-tying goal. St. Thomas added an empty-net goal in the final minute to secure the two-goal victory.

Andrea Peterson scored both of the goals for Gustavus. Tomery Stolz, Andrea Schilling, Susan Hosford, and Maureen Hardwick all netted goals for St. Thomas.

Kitty Hurley started in goal for Gustavus, allowing three goals while making six saves. Kara Meyer, making her collegiate debut, came in after the Tommies’ third goal and made six saves without allowing a goal. Becky Kilpatrick went the distance between the pipes for St. Thomas by making 34 saves.

Gustavus was 0-5 on the power play. St. Thomas was 0-1 with the extra skater.

St. Thomas defeated Gustavus 3-1 on Friday night in Minneapolis. The Gusties are now 2-3 on the year while the Tommies are 4-0-1.
