The Gustavus women’s soccer team was defeated by UW-Stevens Point 4-1on Sunday in St. Peter. The loss wrapped up the season for the Gusties, who finished the year at 9-8-1.
Melissa Becker scored two goals for UW-Stevens Point, who improved to 12-3-3 on the season. The Pointers jumped out to a quick lead when Kim Reese found the back of the net 75 seconds after the opening whistle.
Trailing 2-0, Gustavus got its lone goal from Kara Knutson five minutes before halftime. Ashlie Thomas picked up the assist.
Becker scored her second goal of the afternoon to give UW-Stevens Point a two-goal advantage 12 minutes into the second half. Kelly Fink rounded off the day’s scoring with a goal nine minutes later.
With Saturday’s 1-0 overtime win at St. Catherine, Gustavus has now won nine or more games in a season for 14 straight years. The Gusties have also finished above .500 each of the past 14 seasons.
