Men’s Soccer Defeats Loras 2-0, Extends Unbeaten String to 10 Games Posted on October 22nd, 2003 by

The men’s soccer team picked up an important 2-0 win over Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa on Monday afternoon. The Gusties got a goal from Bobby Kroog late in the first half and the other from Jeff Aasness in the first minute of the second half. Goalkeeper Nate Hitch picked up his sixth shutout of the season while making five saves.

The Gusties extended their unbeaten string to 10 matches and improved their overall season record to 13-1-2. Coach Larry Zelenz’s squad has not allowed a goal in seven games and during that stretch, the Gusties have outscored their opponents 18-0.

Gustavus will now take a week off before playing two very important MIAC matches in the final week of the regular season. The Gusties will face St. Thomas in St. Paul on Tuesday, Oct. 28 and then finish up with Macalester at home on Saturday, Nov. 1. The Tommies are currently tied with Gustavus for second place in the MIAC with a record of 6-2-0 (12 points). The Gusties are 5-1-2 (12 points). Macalester leads the league with a mark of 7-0-0 (14 points).

The top four teams in the final regular season standings will take part in a postseason playoff with the winner earning the automatic NCAA Tournament berth.
