Men’s Soccer Defeats St. John’s 3-1 in Collegeville

The men’s soccer team remained in the hunt for the MIAC title with a convincing 3-1 win over St. John’s in Collegeville on Saturday. The Gusties are now 8-1-0 overall and 2-1-0 in the MIAC.

The men’s soccer team defeated St. John’s 3-1 in Collegeville on Saturday to claim an important MIAC victory. The Gusties, who improved to 8-1-0 overall and 2-1-0 in the MIAC stayed in the hunt for the league title with the convincing win. St. John’s falls to 4-2-2 overall and 1-1-0 in the MIAC.

Gustavus opened the scoring on a goal by Joe Hartwell with 10 minutes remaining in the first half (34:42). Jonathan Astry was credited with the assist.

The Gusties increased their lead to 3-0 on unassisted goals by Taylor Stein and Caleb Bousu in the second half. Stein tallied his goal at the 52:76 mark, while Bousu found the net at 59:59.

St. John’s cut the lead to 3-1 with 15 minutes left in regulation play on a goal by Andy Witchger.

Nate Hitch was the winning goalkeeper for Gustavus, while Eric Prawalsky suffered the loss in the nets for St. John’s.
