Women’s Cross Country Team Places Second at Two Invitationals Posted on September 7th, 2003 by

The Gustavus women’s cross country team split into two groups to participate in both the Hanover Invitational and St. John’s Invitational on Saturday, September 6. The Gusties placed second at both meets.
The top nine runners for Coach Scott Jerome’s squad participated at the 18-team Hanover Invitational in Hanover, Indiana. Gustavus tied for second place with 93 points at the 5K race, site of this year’s NCAA National Championships. UW-Stevens Point placed first with 75 points. Nichole Petersen was the top Gustie finisher, coming in sixth place with a time of 18:47.

The national competition, which will be 6K in length, will be held on November 22. Last year Gustavus was one point shy at regionals of qualifying for the national race.

The remaining members of the women’s cross country squad traveled to Collegeville, Minnesota to take part in the nine-team St. John’s Invitational. Gustavus placed second with 86 points. St. Benedict won the 5K competition with 25 points.
