The Gustavus women’s soccer team opened the 2003 season with a pair of non-conference games in Lincoln, Nebraska on August 29 and 30. The Gusties shut out the host school Nebraska Wesleyan 2-0 on Friday and fell to Principia 2-0 on Saturday.
The Gusties began the year by defeating Nebraska Wesleyan 2-0 thanks to goals by Jackie Lehman and Samantha Engh.

Lehman broke a scoreless tie 18 minutes into the second half as she scored her first goal in a Gustie uniform on a centering pass from Engh. Engh added one of her own six minutes later as she beat the Prairie Wolves goalkeeper on a breakaway.

Goalkeeper Lindsey LaVoie, who was playing in her first collegiate game, stopped three Nebraska Wesleyan shots to record the shutout.

The next day Gustavus was shut out by Principia 2-0. The Gusties managed just three shots on goal as Principia scored a goal 13 minutes before halftime and tacked on another score 13 minutes into the second half of play. LaVoie went the distance in goal, making seven saves.
