Sandvig Named to All-District Verizon Academic Team Posted on April 1st, 2003 by

(St. Peter, Minn., April 1, 2003) — Kate Sandvig, a junior point guard for the Gusties, has been named to the 2002-03 Verizon Academic Women’s Basketball All-District V Third Team. Sandvig is the daughter of Mark and Lori Sandvig of Edina.
Sandvig was one of 17 players from District V to be named to one of the three all-district squads. She has posted a 3.943 grade point average while pursuing a mathematics major and secondary education minor at Gustavus. Sandvig was one of only two MIAC players named to one of the all-district teams. St. Benedict guard Michelle Barlau was named to the second team.

Sandvig, who had 59 steals on the season, was a key component of the conference’s top-rated defense that gave up a league-low 53.5 points per MIAC game. She helped lead the Gusties to their best record (25-4) in the history of the program. This past season, Gustavus claimed a share of its first-ever conference title and advanced to the second round of the NCAA national tournament for the first time in school history.
