Offense Comes Alive As Baseball Sweeps Macalester 11-3, 8-6The Gustavus baseball team pounded out 27 hits as it broke out of its offensive slump to post a doubleheader sweep over Macalester by the scores of 11-3 and 8-6 on Thursday in St. Peter. Spencer Campion had a big day at the plate for the Gusties as he went 4-for-7, scored four runs, drove in five runs, and hit the game-winning two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning of game two to help Gustavus earn the sweep.
The Gustavus men's tennis team defeated Macalester 9-0 and St. Thomas 6-3 to earn its 21st consecutive MIAC Championship on Saturday. The Gusties finished conference play undefeated at 9-0 and improved to 23-8 overall. Gustavus will host the MIAC Championships at the Brown Outdoor Tennis Courts beginning with the #3-6 seeds competing on Friday, May 1. The top-seeded Gustavus will face the lowest remaining seed on Saturday, May 2 at 9 a.m.
Women’s Basketball Holds On For Hard-Fought 60-48 Win Over MacalesterThe Gustavus women's basketball team picked up its fourth consecutive win by outlasting Macalester 60-48 in a very physical battle at Gus Young Court on Wednesday night. The Gusties had five players reach double figures in scoring including Molly Geske with 16, Emily Nelson and Kirsten Prunty with 11, and Molly Mathiowetz, and Bri Radtke with 10.
The Gustavus men's basketball team did not miss many shots against Macalester on Wednesday night as it shot a blazing 62.3 percent from the field on 33-for-53 en route to an 87-59 win in St. Paul. The Gusties were equally impressive from the three-point line as they hit 8-of-13 from behind the arc and went a perfect 13-for-13 from the charity stripe. Bobby Johnson paced Gustavus, which improved to 10-9 overall and 9-5 in the league, with 15 points.
Men’s Basketball Gets Back On Track With 91-37 Win Over MacalesterThe Gustavus men's basketball team snapped a three-game losing streak with a 91-37 win over Macalester College at Gus Young Court on Monday night. Head Coach Mark Hanson's squad were 37-for-65 from the floor for a 56.9 shooting percentage and forced the Scots to commit 23 turnovers, resulting in 37 Gustie points. The Gustavus reserves poured in 60 points as Tyler Grey and Seth Anderson scored off of the bench to lead the team with 10 points apiece.
The Gustavus women's basketball team ran into a hot-shooting Macalester squad and lost its first conference game of the year by the score of 88-71 in St. Paul. The Scots shot 61.5 percent from the field (16-26) and made 19-of-29 free throws in the second half to pull away from the Gusties who fell out of first place with the loss. Ann Baltzer led the Scots with 26 points, while Emily Nelson led Gustavus with 19 points.
The 19th-ranked Gustavus volleyball team overcame a 2-1 deficit to escape with a 3-2 (24-26, 29-27, 26-28, 25-10, 21-19) win over Macalester College in St. Paul on Wednesday night. The Gusties saved four match points in the fifth set to remain in the running for the second seed in the MIAC Post-Season Tournament. Both squads recorded 73 kills, but the difference in the match was blocking as Gustavus outblocked the Scots 14-5.
Women’s Soccer Plays To 1-1 Draw With Macalester On Senior DayThe Gustavus women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw with the Scots from Macalester College on Senior Day in St. Peter, Minn. Ashley Anderson tied the score with her third goal of the season in the 59h minute when she re-directed a cross from Megan Gode past goalkeeper Jenny Lee. Ashley Ohlson played in goal for the Gusties and got the tie. With the draw, Gustavus moves to 6-7-3 (4-4-2 in the MIAC), while Macalester moves to 8-7-2 (5-3-2 in the MIAC).
The Gustavus men's soccer team claimed an important 2-1 conference win over Macalester in St. Paul on Friday night. Freshman defender Justin Eglseder took a pass from Skylar Schulz and drove a ball past Scot goalkeeper Mark Mullaney from the six-yard line in the 109th minute. The win allowed the Gusties to clinch a spot in the MIAC Playoffs for the sixth consecutive year.
The Gustavus baseball team saw its nine-game win streak come to an end at Macalester on Sunday afternoon. The Gusties won game one 10-5, but then dropped game two 5-3. Coach Mike Carroll's squad is now 17-9 overall and 9-1 in MIAC play.
