Josh Owens Breaks MIAC Record In Pole Vault

Gustavus junior Josh Owens (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) broke the MIAC men’s outdoor pole vault record Saturday at the Meet of the UnSaintly in St. Paul, clearing a height of 16-6.75. Owens broke the previous record of 16-6.5, which has stood since 1983 (Dave Wenberg, Hamline). His new career mark is at the top of the MIAC performance list and is 1-1.75 higher than the second place vauler.

Women’s Hockey Team Falls To Elmira 4-1 In NCAA Championship Third Place Game

The Gustavus women's hockey team saw its 2009-10 season come to a disappointing end with a 4-1 loss to Elmira College on Saturday afternoon in the third place game of the NCAA Championship Finals, which were held at Don Roberts Ice Rink on the Gustavus campus. Allie Schwab scored the lone goal for the Gusties midway through the second period. Coach Mike Carroll and his squad ended the season with a record of 22-6-2.

Late Power Play Goals Lead Women’s Hockey Past Hamline 3-1

In a tightly contested game that remained tied through well into the third period, Gustavus scored twice late in the third period to defeat Hamline by a score of 3-1 Saturday afternoon in St. Peter, Minn. Melissa Mackley came up big for the Gusties once again, scoring the game’s first goal in the second period and later assisting on the team’s final goal late in the third period. The Gusties improved to 15-4-2 overall and 10-3-1 in the MIAC, while extending their win streak to six games.

Women’s Hockey Holds On For 4-3 Win Over UW-Stevens Point

The Gustavus women's hockey team built a 4-1 lead and then held off a late UW-Stevens Point rally to claim a 4-3 win at Don Roberts Ice Rink in St. Peter on Tuesday night. Junior defender Sara Yungner led Gustavus with two goals, while first year forward Tam Meuwissen tallied the game-winner at the 6:35 mark of the third period. Emily Klatt claimed the win in goal for the Gusties who improved to 13-4-2 on the season.
