The College Swim Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) released its Academic Team Honor Roll last week and both the Gustavus men’s and women’s swimming teams were honored by the CSCAA. The women compiled a team gpa of 3.28 which was 37th best in Division III. The men compiled a team gpa of 3.15 which was 25th best in Division III.

The Gustavus men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams have consistently been ranked among the top teams in Division III both in the pool and in the classroom. In the pool, the men’s team has won six of the last seven conference titles and placed in the top 15 at the NCAA Championships for five consecutive seasons, while the women have won four of the last seven conference titles and finished in the top 20 at the NCAA Championships three times in the past six years. In the classroom, both the men’s and women’s teams have been named to to the CSCAA Academic Honor Roll for five consecutive years.

Coach Jon Carlson is delighted that the team has been honored yet again and is very proud of the commitment that every one of his swimmers makes to achieve excellence in the classroom and in the pool. Carlson stated, “We owe our success to our Study Mentorship program, which pairs first-year athletes with an upper-class swimmer or diver. The new swimmers get the message right away that at Gustavus, academic and athletic success go hand-in-hand.”
