Six Gusties Named MIAC Football First Team All-Conference

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference released its football postseason awards Tuesday and six Gustavus student-athletes were named First Team All-Conference – Brayton Finch (Sr., Mount Morris, Ill.), Zach Jakes (So., Mankato), Josh Kirk (Sr., Garvin), Brice Panning (Sr., Hamburg),  Kaleb Scott (Jr., Gardena, Calif.), and Michael Veldman (Sr., Becker). 

Football Closes Out Season with Decisive Win Over St. Olaf

The Gustavus football team closed out its 2019 season Saturday with a 49-7 win over St. Olaf. With the win the Gusties complete the season at 7-3 overall and 5-3 in the MIAC, while the Oles finish 5-5 overall and 3-5 in conference. The seven wins are the most for the Gusties since 2015.

Football Hosts Carleton Saturday Looking to Extend Win Streak to Four

Saturday in Saint Peter will feature two of the top passing offenses in the country as Carleton comes to Hollingsworth Field for a 1 p.m. contest. The Gusties enter the game 5-2 overall and 3-2 in the MIAC while the Knights are 4-4 overall and 2-4 in the MIAC.

Football Sets School Record With 69 Points in Win Over Hamline

The Gustavus football team put together a strong all-around effort on Saturday to take down Hamline 69-21. The 69-point effort sets the Gustavus football program record for most points in a game. The Gusties scored 69 points against NPI in 1979, however, it went as an exhibition as NPI was not an NCAA institution. With the win the Gusties improve to 4-2 overall and 2-2 in the MIAC while the Pipers move to 1-6 overall and 0-5 in the conference.

Late Game Heroics Lead to Football’s First Road Win at Concordia Since 2010

Trailing by one with 30 seconds to play and the ball on its own 22 yard line, the odds were stacked against the Gustavus football team. Michael Veldman (Sr., Becker) took a snap and ended up scrambling left from the pocket before unleashing a deep ball on the run that traveled 50 yards in the air and was caught by Josh Kirk (Sr., Garvin) on the left sideline, which he was able to take in for the score.
