Sara Yungner Named Elite 88 Award Winner At NCAA Women’s Hockey Championship

Gustavus senior defender Sara Yungner (Maple Grove, Minn./Wayzata) was named the winner of the 2011 Elite 88 Award at the NCAA Women's Ice Hockey Championship banquet in Rochester, New York on Thursday night. The Elite 88 Award honors the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade point average participating at the finals site of each of the NCAA's national championships.

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey coaches recently released its 2010-11 Post-Season Awards and Gustie players Kirstin Peterson, Lindsey Hjelm, and Amanda Cartony were named to the All-Conference Team, while Mike Carroll was named Coach of the Year.

Lindsey Hjelm scored late in the second to put Gustavus up 4-0.

Women’s Hockey Will Face UW-River Falls In NCAA Tournament On Friday

The Gustavus women's hockey team, which earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament by winning the MIAC Playoff with a 3-0 win over Bethel last Saturday, will travel to River Falls, Wisconsin this Friday, March 11 to play UW-River Falls at the Hunt Arena at 7:00 pm in a NCAA Tournament First Round game.

The Gustavus women's hockey team earned its eighth consecutive MIAC Playoff Championship with a 3-0 win over the Bethel Royals on Saturday afternoon in St. Peter. Junior Allie Schwab scored two goals to lead the Gusties.

Women’s Hockey Set To Host Bethel For MIAC Playoff Championship

The Gustavus women's hockey team will face Bethel for the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Playoff Championship on Saturday at 2:00 pm at Don Roberts Ice Rink in St. Peter. The Gusties enter with a record of 20-3-3 overall, while the Royals enter with a mark of 15-9-2. The game will be broadcast live through the Gustavus Athletics web site with JJ Akin on the play-by-play and Tim Kennedy handling the color commentary.

Women’s Hockey Defeats Augsburg 8-1, Claims 7th Straight League Title

The Gustavus women's hockey team continued its winning ways on Saturday night with an impressive 8-1 win over Augsburg in Minneapolis. With the win, the Gusties claimed their seventh straight MIAC regular season title with a record of 14-2-2.
