The Gustavus women's indoor track and field team racked up 88 points to finish fourth at the Ted Nelson Classic Saturday hosted by Minnesota State Mankato. Funto Okanla and Kourtney Joyce picked up first place finishes in the 60 meter dash and 5000 meter run, respectively. The Gusties return to the track next Saturday when they participate in the Minnesota Parents' Day Invite at the University of Minnesota Fieldhouse.
The Gustavus women's tennis team ran its record to 3-1 on the season with its second win over Division II University of Nebraska-Omaha in as many days. Lyndsey Palen and Darcy Haubrick were both double-winners for the Gusties.
The Gustavus women's basketball team kept its hopes for a first-round bye in the MIAC Playoffs alive Wednesday night with a 75-50 win over St. Olaf in Northfield. Bri Monahan scored 19 to lead the Gusties, followed closely by Jess Vadnais with 18. Gustavus (16-5, 14-4 MIAC) returns home Saturday hosting Augsburg in another MIAC tilt.
Bri Monahan scored 26 points and Jess Vadnais added another 20 as the Gustavus women's basketball team posted a 73-71 win over Bethel Monday night in Arden Hills. The Gusties improve to 15-5 overall, 13-4 in the MIAC with the victory and locked down at least a first-round home game in the MIAC Playoffs.
Senior Chandra Daw and sophomore Laura Edlund each registered a pair of top-30 finishes to lead the Gustavus women's Nordic ski team to a third-place team finish at the NorAm SuperTour stop at Telemark Resort in Cable, Wis. last weekend. The event served as the third of five Central Collegiate Ski Association (CCSA) qualifiers for the NCAA National Collegiate Skiing Championships in Colorado Springs, Colo. in March.
The Gustavus women's swimming and diving team picked up only three wins in 16 events on Saturday, falling to Minnesota State University, Mankato, 170-130, in a season-opening dual Saturday at the Lund Natatorium in St. Peter. Ashley Baer won the 1000 freestyle, 500 freestyle, 200 backstroke and 100 backstroke to lead the Mavericks.
