Baseball Swept By St. Thomas in MIAC Opener

The Gustavus baseball team was swept by St. Thomas in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader Wednesday in St. Peter. The Gusties fell 6-0 in game one and then pushed the Tommies to extra innings before falling 3-2 in 11 innings. The Gusties will be on the road for their next four games, facing MIAC rival Hamline in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon before meeting Simpson in a non-conference doubleheader Sunday.

Bethel Completes Sweep of Men’s Hockey 6-2

The Gustavus men's hockey team put the first goal on the board, but allowed four straight goals as Bethel completed a weekend sweep with a 6-2 win at Columbia Arena in Fridley. Steven Jensen and Mike Hosfield scored for the Gusties, who have lost three of their last four. Gustavus will face St. Thomas in a weekend series beginning Friday in Mendota Heights.

Volleyball Swept By St. Olaf 3-0

The Gustavus volleyball team dropped their third straight Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest Wednesday night with a 3-0 loss to St. Olaf in Northfield. Sophomore Andrea Kron led the Gusties offensively with 12 kills. St. Olaf improves to 9-5 overall and 4-2 in the MIAC, while Gustavus falls to 9-8 overall and 3-4 in the league. The Gusties and Oles will both participate in the MIAC-IIAC Border Battle Tournament beginning Friday afternoon in St. Peter.

Volleyball Swept By Bethel 3-0

The Gustavus volleyball team saw their short two-match winning streak come to an end Wednesday night, falling to Bethel University 3-0 in Arden Hills, Minn. Sophomores Andrea Kron (Cold Spring, Minn.) and Jennifer Thelemann (Le Sueur, Minn.) led the Gusties offensively with 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Bethel improves to 13-4 overall and 3-1 in the MIAC with the win, while Gustavus slips to 9-6 overall and 3-2 in the league.

Volleyball Sweeps St. Kate’s 3-0

The Gustavus volleyball team picked up their third Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory of the season with a 3-0 victory over the College of St. Catherine Saturday in St. Peter. Sophomore Andrea Kron (Cold Spring, Minn.) led the Gusties with 15 kills, while first-year Bridget Burtzel added 30 assists. Kayla Reed registered 11 kills and 12 digs for the Wildcats, now 2-9 and 0-3 in the MIAC. Gustavus improved to 9-5 overall and 3-1 in the MIAC with the win.

Volleyball Downs Augsburg 3-0

The Gustavus volleyball team got back on the winning track Friday night by beating Augsburg in three games (30-11, 30-16, 30-18). Gustavus was led by junior outside hitter Jessica Plemel (Owatonna, Minn.) with 14 kills and first-year Bridget Burtzel (Cold Spring, Minn.) with 41 assists. Senior Billie Painschab and sophomore Katie LaGrave led the Auggies offensively with five kills apiece. The Gusties improve to 8-5 overall and 2-1 in the MIAC, while Augsburg falls to 2-14 overall and 0-4 in league play.

Volleyball Swept By Carleton

The Gustavus volleyball team saw its Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference record evened at 1-1 on Wednesday night, falling to league leader Carleton in three games (30-27, 30-22, 30-15). The Knights improved to 10-1 overall and 3-0 in the MIAC with the victory, while the Gusties fall to 7-5 overall, 1-1 in the league.
