The Gustavus men's hockey team lost its first game of the season 7-5 against top-ranked St. Norbert College on Saturday at All Seasons Arena in Mankato, Minn. The Gusties fought back from a 6-2 deficit to trail by one goal midway through the third period, but an empty net goal by the Green Knights ended the comeback. David Martinson scored two goals and an assist to lead Gustavus as St. Norbert allowed five goals for the first time since February 3, 2007.
The Gustavus women's tennis team opened its spring season with a 9-0 loss to #1-ranked Division II Brigham Young University-Hawaii in Laie, Hawaii on Saturday, February 9. The 11th-ranked Gusties were unable to pick up a single set against the Seasiders, who have won 62 consecutive dual matches.
Jess Vadnais (Sr., Hudson, Wis.) scored 20 of her game-high 24 points in the second half to lift the Gustavus women's basketball team past Macalester 54-51 Wednesday night at Gus Young Court in St. Peter. The game kicked off the MIAC schedule for both squads, while the game was also the season opener for Coach Mickey Haller's squad.
Sophomore guard Jess Vadnais scored a game-high 26 points as the Gustavus women's basketball team picked up a 78-70 season-opening win over Wartburg College Tuesday night in Waverly, Iowa. Junior Bri Monahan added 15 points despite sitting out most of the second half with foul trouble. The Gusties improve to 1-0, while the Knights fall to 2-1. Coach Mickey Haller's squad continues play this weekend at the UW-Eau Claire Thanksgiving Classic, facing Luther at 6 p.m. on Friday, November 25.
